Mentee Moments - Hannah Klopping

Hannah and her mentor Delaina

Welcome to another installment of Mentee Moments, Amplify’s series highlighting the voices of our mentees as they share what it’s like to step into the world of Thoroughbred racing.

In this post, Hannah Klopping reflects on her journey through the Amplify Horse Racing Mentorship Program, where she discovered how her passion for horses connects with her academic focus in business administration, marketing, and accounting. Guided by her mentor, Delaina Stenchever, Hannah explores the creative side of the Thoroughbred industry, learning how marketing, storytelling, and strategy come together to promote racing and breeding to new audiences.

When I started the Amplify Horse Racing Mentorship, I knew I wanted to connect my personal interests in the Thoroughbred industry with my future degree in business administration, emphasizing marketing and accounting. Even with that vision in mind, I wasn’t fully aware of the wide variety of career options available within the industry.

Through my mentorship, I’ve been able to explore the business side of racing in ways I had never experienced before. My mentor, Delaina, introduced me to the marketing work that drives the Thoroughbred industry. As I learned about the many facets of the business, I shared my prior and current interest in breeding performance horses. Delaina then tailored weekly projects that connected those interests to marketing.

These projects have pushed me out of my comfort zone and opened up a world of opportunities to explore how breeding farms promote their programs, whether through “in-show” marketing on racing networks or through digital strategies on social media. I feel that I’m not only being prepared to work on the business side of the Thoroughbred industry but also to succeed across the broader scope of my career goals. Delaina has guided me through each project while helping me understand how my undergraduate and graduate studies, as well as future internships, can align with my long-term aspirations.

I’m excited to continue being part of the Amplify and horse racing community and to one day contribute to giving the Thoroughbred industry the public recognition and presence it deserves.

As I’ve worked through assignments like analyzing social media algorithms and creating mock accounts with posts tailored to those strategies, I’ve discovered a new excitement for marketing, especially in helping Thoroughbred businesses share their hard work and dedication with wider audiences. I never expected to find myself imagining ways to bring new fans to horse racing, even if it means combining Taylor Swift fans with Thoroughbreds!

I am so thankful for the Amplify Horse Racing Mentorship and the incredibly supportive people I’ve met through it. I am especially grateful for my mentor, Delaina. Her kindness, encouragement, inclusivity, and support have made this experience truly life-altering. She consistently pushes me to step outside my comfort zone and inspires me to embrace the mindset that “you miss 100% of the chances you don’t take.”

Although I’m sad to see this mentorship come to an end at the end of October, I’m excited to continue being part of the Amplify and horse racing community and to one day contribute to giving the Thoroughbred industry the public recognition and presence it deserves.
