New Vocations, the largest racehorse adoption program in the country, offers hands-on learning opportunities for students interested in equine care, aftercare, and retraining.

Responsibilities & Duties:
Assist with daily horse care, including stall cleaning, feeding, turnout, grooming, and tacking
Support retraining activities such as longeing, basic first aid, and riding (as qualified and when horses are suitable)
Work directly with the facility manager/trainer in the care, handling, and training of program horses
Participate in daily facility tasks and general barn work
Assist with photo and video content for horse listings (if skilled in photography/videography)
Support preparations for events and program activities as needed
Observe training and retraining sessions to develop understanding of OTTB transition programs
Qualifications & Requirements:
Extensive riding experience and strong riding ability*
General horse care experience
Preferred: Skills in videography and photography
Strong attention to detail and ability to take initiative
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and work in all weather conditions
Must be able to commit to a minimum 3-month internship
Note: Not all interns will qualify to ride. Riding opportunities depend on skill level and availability of appropriate horses. Students interested solely in horse care and observation are welcome to apply.
Salary:
Paid hourly; rate depends on experience
