Opened in 1925 in Collinsville, Illinois, Fairmount Park is a one-mile dirt oval with chutes for 6 furlongs and 1¼ miles, hosting thoroughbred racing (and formerly harness) in the St. Louis metro area.
Once capable of over 230 live racing days per year, its schedule has since contracted and today runs approximately 90 days annually. The track is home to the St. Louis Derby, a revival of the old Fairmount Derby, offering top regional competition for three-year-olds. In recent years, new ownership has invested heavily in upgrades—reviving the historic name, adding a racino, and committing millions to enhance the racing experience.
