Responsibilities & Duties
General Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise the Education Program Coordinator

  • Manage the Education Department budget, including expenses, grants, and projections

  • Plan and document Education Committee meetings

  • Collaborate with internal departments to develop and deliver programming

Youth Programs:

  • Develop and implement educational programs for preschool through college audiences

  • Coordinate programs such as preschool drop-ins, Girl Scouts, 4-H, camps, and school partnerships

  • Manage and display the annual student art exhibition

  • Expand programming based on Museum collections and exhibits

  • Facilitate programs like Readers Up! and Backstretch Buddies

  • Plan family-focused events (e.g., Family Fun Days)

  • Conduct school outreach and presentations

  • Organize special events and secure donations

  • Partner with Thoroughbred industry organizations for programming

Adult Programs:

  • Develop and lead adult programming, including tours and speaking engagements

  • Coordinate and manage the Museum’s book club

  • Create programs tied to exhibitions and historical themes

  • Lead community outreach initiatives

Online Programming:

  • Develop and deliver virtual programs and tours via platforms like Zoom, YouTube, and Facebook Live

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, museum studies, history, equine studies, or related field required

  • 3–5 years of experience in museum education, teaching, or public programming required

  • Knowledge of developmental stages (Pre-K through 12th grade), especially early childhood education

  • Understanding of learning theories and curriculum development

  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work with diverse age groups

  • Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

  • Supervisory experience preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required

  • Experience with Blackbaud Altru preferred

Salary
Starting at $50,000 annually
