The Event Manager plays a key role in planning, organizing, and executing events year-round — from Derby Week and live race days to weddings, corporate retreats, and special functions — ensuring that every guest experience reflects Churchill Downs’ world-class hospitality and tradition.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Plan, organize, and execute events on race days and non-race days

  • Collaborate with internal departments (sales, marketing, ticketing, community relations) to fulfill event needs

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and vendors

  • Create Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), event diagrams, and timelines

  • Oversee logistics for approximately 35 event rooms

  • Respond promptly to day-of event needs and guest concerns

  • Serve as Churchill Downs’ representative in premium dining and hospitality areas

  • Assist with major events including the Kentucky Derby and seasonal race meets

  • Perform light physical work and extensive walking on event days

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Customer-service mindset with ability to multitask under pressure

  • Experience in event management, hospitality, or entertainment venues

  • Proven ability to manage multiple event spaces simultaneously

  • Comfortable working with high-profile clients, officials, and members of the Thoroughbred community

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related event management software

  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays
